That is exactly where action painting starts with us: guided enough that a picture comes out at the end instead of tipping into brown, and free enough that everyone does what they want. As a company event that means no run sheet to sign off before you book.
Anyone who has done a team event where everyone stands in a circle and plays guided games knows the feeling: grown adults treated like they are back in school. With us, that pressure falls away and the painting stays.
Nobody paints from A to Z here. There is no template, no set order, no „first red, then blue“. A guide accompanies the group so paint, surface and tool fit together. The craft
Behind the free painting sits material behaviour that decides the result. Three rules make sure a picture stands at the end instead of a brown blotch:
Wax does not take paint. Anyone who works with a wax crayon before the paint goes on keeps that area free. No matter how many layers come on top later, the spot stays clear. Patterns appear this way without anyone needing to be able to paint.
Spray paint cracks on fresh acrylic. If the acrylic layer underneath has not fully cured, spraying over it creates a craquelé effect: fine cracks that make the picture look years old. Anyone who has seen it once never paints without this trick again.
Paint dosing is the real craft. Too much paint at once runs together and turns dark green to brown: the moment a picture becomes a mess of colour. The guide steps in right before that happens, not after.
These three rules are why guided does not mean restricted with us. The guide takes care of the material, you take care of the decisions. And in December that means: paint becomes a picture that still hangs in the office in January, not a brown blur in the memory.
Graffiti workshop as a Christmas party
The Hall of Fame at Bahnwärter Thiel in the Schlachthofviertel is our Christmas spot for this: your team learns can control in small groups and sprays a shared piece, mulled wine in the thermos, the wall is legal and we obtain the permit ourselves.
Nobody needs experience: a guide covers grip, distance and line first, then each small group takes its own part of the wall. From 10 people up to 1,000, larger parties simply get more wall and more stations. Personio did exactly this in December 2024: around 60 people in six teams, each team with its own word on the wall. Prefer the Ostbahnhof side? The legal surface in the Werksviertel works the same way. And if December weather turns nasty, the graffiti workshop stays outside at the wall; if you'd rather be indoors, you switch to action painting on canvas.
The piece stays in the city, part of the Schlachthofviertel until someone paints over it. What goes home: the drone shot in front of your wall with graffiti, and your canvases with action painting.

Real company dates, Munich first, plus two from Hamburg that show the same formats at a different scale. Each group works at its own canvas, paint in motion, nobody just watching.
In December 2024, Personio split roughly 60 people into six teams at Bahnwärter Thiel. Each team brainstormed its own word and sprayed it themselves, so all six could work the wall at once instead of standing around while one group painted.
Ruby Hotels turned an evening into one continuous plan: dinner at La Favela first, then 40 people kept painting at Bahnwärter Thiel until 9:30pm, almost into the dark. What went up on the wall was the lettering RubyVerse.
At CRX Markets, the team members designed the letters of the lettering one by one, each in their own handwriting. Out of many single parts came one word on the wall at Bahnwärter Thiel. The artwork can be reused digitally, for instance in an email signature.
At Cloudflare, the team sprayed the legal wall at Bahnwärter Thiel on a summer day while a drone circled over the forecourt. When the last can went down, the date tipped from work into celebration: a breakdance performance ran in front of the finished graffiti.
In May 2023, T.con turned a single lunch break in the Werksviertel into a 40-square-metre communal graffiti piece, the whole group working one surface instead of splitting into small formats. Each person also took home a small painted paper.
GKM moved their summer day to the Botanikum, into the large greenhouse with its grass floor. The work happened barefoot, with action painting, graffiti and abstract painting running side by side. What came out of it were individual graffiti pieces at 50×70 and five larger works, one per department. Those pieces hang in the office today as decoration.
For HANSAINVEST we set up a graffiti wall and an action painting setup side by side on the pier at Hamburg's Museumshafen, right under the old loading doors of the MS Bleichen. Small groups worked on their own canvases, and all the pieces were presented at the end.
A company team event with around 80 people painted freely in Hamburg's HafenCity, with a view of the Elbe. A day that already called for jackets, and the proof that the format carries a company party when it gets colder outside.
Travel and material transport to Munich and the surrounding area sit inside the price per person, so nothing is added later. Up to 30 days before the date you cancel free of charge, after that the full sum falls due.
How the workshop part of your Christmas party runs
We don't talk much, we get to work early. We barely interfere with your pictures, the result should come from your hand, not ours.
A session runs two to three hours, and the order makes the difference: if everyone paints at once, the colours run into each other and turn brown. That is why your piece grows in layers, with short breaks in between. What that means for your group is laid out step by step below.
If you do not have a location yet, we suggest a surface we have worked on before. The booking still stays with you, and the same goes for side programme and drinks. We come to your own rooms as soon as you provide the surface.
On site our team covers the area with protective material, and we take liability for it. If a spot gets messy, we leave that area out. No need to change clothes: gloves and a poncho are enough.
The guide first explains the materials: spray paint, wax crayon, acrylic, lacquer. Spray paint cracks open on acrylic that's still wet, which creates a crackle effect. That's why the piece ends up layer on layer.
A guide splits the group into small units, one guide per 50 participants. Whoever is not at the canvas takes on a small two-by-two task, and the guide decides who paints when.
The piece grows in layers that need to dry before the next colour goes on: one group paints, waits, then the next one follows. The drying time in between is part of the technique, not idle time.
Whether everyone takes home their own piece or you work on one shared piece is your call when booking. With a shared piece, the layers build directly on top of each other.
At the end we clean up and the surface goes back the way it was. Whatever was created belongs to you from that moment on; nothing is shipped afterwards. You take your pieces with you right away.

What remains at the end
Both options work. If everyone takes something home, you do not know beforehand which piece you get. At some dates the finished pictures are handed out at random after painting, including the white edge left by the masking tape, which works like a mount. The element of chance is part of the fun then.
If you would rather have one shared work, you get a large-format piece for the reception or the office. As a suggestion: three single pieces framed side by side carry more than one picture alone. That is an idea, not a promise of service: framing and hanging are not something we do.
What remains is yours: the piece, the photo, the story behind it, and a team that is still talking about it in January.
Making it feel like Christmas
The workshop is the programme, the evening around it makes it a Christmas party. Our route starts at Bahnwärter Thiel or in the Werksviertel and ends at a Christmas market, and we happily stand by that: urban, short distances, no coach transfer.
Here's how it looks: afternoon at the legal wall at Bahnwärter Thiel in the Schlachthofviertel, cans from us, mulled wine or punch you bring yourselves, thermos in hand at the wall if you like. Once the piece is done, you head into the city centre to the Christkindlmarkt on Marienplatz. Prefer to start at Ostbahnhof? Spray at the legal surface in the Werksviertel and the Christmas market on Knödelplatz in Werksviertel-Mitte is right outside the door. The Ruby Hotels version works too: dinner first, then painting into the evening. Workshop, market, dinner, one evening, everything close together.
And if you're lucky, it snows, a spray wall in falling snow is the picture the office quotes for years, and if the weather plays along we'll get the drone up for the shot. Best memories to take into the holidays, right before everyone heads home to family.
And the piece you made? It goes home. A canvas from the Christmas party hangs in the office in January, or becomes the one Christmas present from the team that nobody else has.
Indoors or outdoors
Whether you paint indoors or outdoors, you decide before the date based on space, weather and preferred location, and the two options differ in materials, surface and what happens to the pieces at the end.
If you paint indoors
The weather forecast plays no part in choosing the date, the room sets the frame. Indoors we usually work with acrylic; lacquer and spray cans are possible as well, but only in large, open or well-ventilated rooms. That stays the exception, not a general rule for every indoor space.
You paint on canvas and paper. We cover the floor and are liable for the protection we provide; the choice of tools follows the risk of mess. Accessibility depends on the chosen space, not on the format. Let us know and we look for an accessible room. The canvases are yours and go home with you, we do not frame or deliver them later.
If you paint outdoors
The date is planned around the weather forecast, because lacquer is used outdoors as well and the surface is in the open. Outdoors, acrylic and lacquer are the standard with no conditions on the space. On legal outdoor walls we cover up and are liable for the protection, and here too the choice of tools follows the mess risk of the surface.
Outdoors we prefer spots like the Hall of Fame at Bahnwaerter Thiel or the legal surface in the Werksviertel by the Ostbahnhof, and we obtain the permit ourselves. A mural stays on the surface because it is a public place; you get the drone shot instead, again without transport or later delivery by us.
If you need a fixed date regardless of the weather and bring your own room, indoor is the better choice: acrylic is always available, lacquer and spray cans only in large, well-ventilated rooms. If you want the full range of materials or a mural on a legal outdoor surface, outdoor suits you better, but you then plan the date around the forecast and clarify the surface in advance. There are two routes: book directly in the shop, or an invoice to your accounts department. In both cases payment falls due before the date, and that is the rule with us.
If something gets in the way
Up to 30 days before you cancel free of charge, after that the full sum falls due. If the weather turns in Munich, graffiti moves to a covered spot outdoors or to a new date, while action painting in the greenhouse keeps running.
