Graffiti

Each group picks a word and sprays it at roughly two by two metres. At the end the pieces lock into one another. Berlin has no single fixed wall: we work at the Wellenwerk in Lichtenberg, in Kreuzberg and in Friedrichshain, and we get the permit ourselves. O2 worked that way at a legal wall along a railway line: one word across the whole length, every small group on its own section, and only together did the word read.

01Find your word: each small group agrees on its own term; at O2 the whole team agreed on one word and split it into sections along the wall. This is usually the loudest minute of the day.
02Can in hand: outline, fill-in, background, almost entirely your index finger. Porsche Digital practised exactly that at a legal wall in Berlin: a picture made of colour fields, each field its own workstation, one line across all of them, sprayed entirely by the team itself.
03Bring it together: the small groups grow into one picture, the way they did for O2 in Berlin, where the sections of the letter band only read as one word once everyone had finished.
10 to 1,000 peopleWe handle the permitAlso on canvas, whatever the weather

If the date cannot move and the weather is uncertain, we plan action painting indoors from the start. At the Wellenwerk in Lichtenberg the hall gives you an indoor option for canvases and Paint the Bus; the graffiti workshop itself always stays outdoors.

Four real Berlin dates, with location, format and the logistics behind them.

Where can you run a graffiti workshop in Berlin?

A graffiti workshop in Berlin has no single home, it has several: the Wellenwerk in Lichtenberg as our partner location with hall and bus area, and legal walls in Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain where O2 and Porsche Digital have sprayed with us. We get the permit, you bring the team. For action painting we come indoors: your office, a coworking floor or the Wellenwerk hall.

How it runs

How a team event in Berlin runs with us

We talk little and get to work quickly. We stay out of your pictures, because the result should come from your hands and not from ours. It should challenge your head, not rush anyone.

01You send the enquiry

Tell us how many of you there are and when it should happen. We answer within 24 hours with a concrete quote instead of a round of questions.

02We check your location

We go through space, surface and power with you. On a call that takes a few minutes. If it goes onto an outside wall, we obtain the permit ourselves, and you sign nothing for it.

03We arrive with everything

Crew, paint and cans come with us, plus protective material for your surfaces and gloves for your hands. There is nothing on your shopping list, and nobody has to change clothes.

04You split into groups

Large groups run in small teams in parallel, each with its own surface. That is why nobody stood around waiting at O2 either, where every small group had its own section of the letter band.

05What stays with you

Depending on the format you take your works back to the office, or you get a drone photo of the whole group in front of the finished piece. What is possible at your event, we tell you beforehand. Not afterwards.

The decision you have to make

Action painting or graffiti?

If you pick graffiti

Pick graffiti when something large should end up on a wall and you want to bring the group together over one shared word. On a wall it only works outdoors, and in exchange it carries up to 1,000 people. If you need a date that holds in the rain, take the same technique on canvas.

What group size changes

Tap a tier and the calculator jumps to it. Graffiti workshops are billed from 10 people, action painting from 15; smaller teams are welcome and pay the amount for that starting number. Travel to Berlin, materials and supervision are included, and all prices are net.

How you pay

You book directly through the shop, or you get an invoice for your accounts department. The invoice comes before the event and has to be paid beforehand. Tell us at the enquiry which route your purchasing needs.

If something gets in the way

Up to 30 days before, you cancel free of charge. If the weather in Berlin turns, that only decides the format: action painting keeps running indoors, the graffiti workshop at the legal wall moves to a new date.

What is already included

Materials, guidance, setup and teardown are in the price, plus travel to Berlin and the surrounding area. What you book and pay for yourself is the location. For legal walls we handle the permit.

What does a graffiti workshop as a team event in Berlin cost?

A graffiti workshop as a team event in Berlin starts at €79 per person net. The price falls with group size: small groups of 10 to 15 sit at €129 per person, large groups reach the entry price. Included are travel to Berlin, material transport, paints and caps, guidance and the permit for the legal wall; the location itself you book separately.

Where can a team legally spray in Berlin?

At several legal surfaces: the Wellenwerk in Lichtenberg, our partner location with a hall and a bus area, and legal walls in Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain, where O2 and Porsche Digital have sprayed with us. We obtain the permit, you sign nothing. Which surface fits depends on your headcount, and what you spray there stays until someone paints over it.

What happens if it rains in Berlin?

Rain does not cancel a team event in Berlin, it only decides the format. A graffiti workshop at the wall always happens outdoors, so we move the date or you switch to action painting indoors, in your office, a coworking floor or the Wellenwerk hall. Tell us at the enquiry whether the date can move; then we plan the format around it.

How does a team event with 100 or more people in Berlin work?

Large groups run in small parallel groups with us, not in a queue. At O2 every small group had its own section of a wall along a railway line; at eBay Open in Berlin more than 1,000 guests joined in over twelve hours, on 450 mini easels and four large canvases. The ceiling is 1,000 people for graffiti and 500 for action painting.

We also come to these cities

We work in 59 cities. If you are planning outside Berlin, you will find the right location here.

Common questions about team events in Berlin

How many people can take part?
For the graffiti workshop, 10 to 1,000 people, for action painting 15 to 500. Small teams are welcome: billing starts from 10 people for graffiti, from 15 for action painting. Upwards we solve size with parallel small groups, in Berlin most recently with more than 1,000 guests at eBay Open across 450 stations.
How long does a workshop take?
Two to three hours, depending on format and group size. That holds for large groups too, because everyone works in parallel. There are no long introductions, and you learn the technique at the wall. The block fits into a seminar day, as the afternoon part or as the close. If your time window is tight, say so at the enquiry and we tighten the schedule.
Do you need previous experience?
No. Everyone starts from scratch, nobody has done it before, and that is exactly what connects people. You spray letters at roughly two by two metres, several per group, working into one another. At that size even beginners see an effect immediately. Adults turn back into children fairly quickly and properly switch off. Anyone who thinks they cannot paint is the rule with us, not the exception.
What happens in bad weather?
The decision is not made on the morning of the event, it is made when you enquire. Tell us then whether the date can move. If it cannot, we plan from the start with a format that runs indoors and outdoors, and you have nothing to decide on the day. If it can move, we keep the outside wall open and come back to you once the forecast is firm. Either way, you are not the one calling us to ask whether it is happening.
What should I wear, does it get dirty?
Graffiti is cleaner than most people expect. Gloves are almost always enough, because spraying is nearly all the index finger. We carry ponchos as protective clothing, though they are not a must. At BVG the participants sprayed a whole bus in Berlin in shirts, polos and chinos, with overshoes and gloves.
Who takes care of permits?
We do. For legal walls we handle the permit completely: you sign nothing and arrange nothing. When we work on your site or in your office, we supply the protective material for floors and surfaces. You stay responsible for your own surfaces, which is why we go through the floor and how we cover it beforehand. On a call that takes a few minutes, and it saves the awkward conversation afterwards. For a legal wall in Berlin you name your preferred date, we do the rest.
How does payment work?
The usual route, when procurement or accounting have a say, is an invoice to your accounts department. Prices on this page are net prices per person. If you cancel later than 30 days before the date, the full amount is due.
Do you run workshops in English?
Yes, very often, and at no extra charge. In Berlin's international teams the groups are frequently mixed, and we then run the whole workshop in English. Tell us at the enquiry whether you need German, English or both. Within a group we also switch when needed.
