Cloudflare placed its summer team event at the Hall of Fame at Bahnwärter Thiel, in the middle of Munich's Schlachthofviertel. The team sprayed its own piece onto the legal wall, a drone captured the day, and at the end a breakdance crew danced in front of it.
The task
A summer team event has an expectation of itself: it should feel bigger than an afternoon in the office, without turning into a full-day programme with travel.
Added to that was the question of the surface. Putting a company logo on a wall quickly becomes legally tricky as soon as the wall belongs to someone who was not asked. A Hall of Fame solves that: spraying is expressly allowed there, and the surface is big enough for a team to work side by side instead of one after the other.
The execution
The result
In front of the finished graffiti there was a breakdance session to close.
For you as the planner this ending is the interesting part. A creative format otherwise ends with people clearing away cans and slowly drifting apart. Here the afternoon ended with a shared moment in front of the team's own result, with the wall as the stage. That is the difference between a programme item that runs its course and an afternoon that has a high point, and it costs nothing but the decision to plan the ending in advance.

Frequently asked questions about this project
How does a graffiti team event at a Hall of Fame run?
On a legal wall where spraying is expressly allowed. Cloudflare held its summer team event at the Hall of Fame at Bahnwärter Thiel in Munich's Schlachthofviertel, with drone footage above the finished wall.
The procedure differs in three points from a workshop on a surface we bring along. First, the wall is already there and does not have to be set up, so the setup is shorter. Third, the surface is wide enough for a whole team to work at the same time instead of taking turns. What you have to settle is only the date at the wall itself and how your group gets there. Everything else, from paint and caps to the guidance, we bring with us. With us a graffiti workshop always takes place outdoors at a real wall anyway, so a Hall of Fame works for the format, not against it.
What do you do at the end of a graffiti team event so that it does not simply peter out?
You plan a finale in front of the finished piece. At Cloudflare that was a breakdance session right in front of the freshly sprayed piece, with the wall as the backdrop for the last minutes of the afternoon.
The point behind it is banal and is still almost always forgotten. A workshop has a natural arc up to the last burst of spray and none at all after that. If you plan nothing, the date ends with people sorting cans. A set finale in front of the result turns that around: everyone sees the whole thing together for the first time, and exactly that moment ends up in the pictures. With a wall of this size it takes no more than ten minutes. At Cloudflare drone footage was added on top, because a piece of this width does not fit completely into one picture from eye level. Whoever plans the finale gets both: the moment for the team and the picture for afterwards.
